Reminder: CBT Introductory Course

A little post to remind you of the two day introductory course on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) that theMaltese Association of Psychiatric Nurses is hosting on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th of October at the Coastline Hotel in Qawra.

CBT is a type of psychotherapy which examines negative cognitive processes (thoughts, attitudes and beliefs). It also focuses on behavior in response to those thoughts. The aim of CBT is to provide the client, within a limited timescale, with the insight and skills needed to improve their quality of life. The client should continue to cope and to progress once therapy is finished. This kind of therapy has become increasingly popular in the past years and is often used as a replacement to or complementing drug therapy in a vast range of mental health problems including: depression, anxiety disorders, drug and alcohol addictions and eating disorders such as anorexia.

The course will be led by Mr. Harry Dodd who will be brought over to Malta for the occasion. Mr. Dodd is a consultant CBT psychotherapist in the U.K. and has vast knowledge and expertise. He has over 20 years of experience on the subject during which he published various papers and was involved in research focusing on CBT. For the past 15 years he has been working in clinically based private practice within a General Practitioners Surgery which also includes Nurse Development training using CBT methods to engage and work with severe and enduring mental illness.

If you are working in a setting where you think knowledge on CBT will be beneficial to you and your client or if you are just interested in the subject, MAPN is inviting you to attend this two day course. For further information regarding this course do not hesitate to contact Mr. Kevin Gafa on 99825731 or send us an email. Hurry up because seating is limited. You can also visit map-n.com to keep up to date on this and other events being organized by MAPN in the near future.
